The 2nd season of MasterChef Canada, the national cooking challenge for home chefs, kicks off right after the Super Bowl (pun intended) on CTV tonight, and we couldn't be more excited! The contestants, the challenges, the judges and of course, those knife skills, it's a perfect recipe for great TV.
WÜSTHOF Canada was invited to tour the MasterChef Canada studios during one of this seasons tapings, and although they're keeping us tight lipped about most everything, we CAN tell you that they're upping the ante this year.
And rightly so... there's a lot on the line for these contestants. Not only is there a $100,000 prize up for grabs, they're also fighting for the title of Canada's Best Home Chef and the notoriety that comes along with that.
Almost half of the top 16 contestants from last season are already working in the culinary world while champion, Eric Chong, is in the process of opening a restaurant in downtown Toronto with Alvin Leung. To be named R&D, Chong's new spot will feature Asian-inspired casual fare. We definitely plan on checking it out.
This season, the finalists come from quite the mixed bag of backgrounds...
A recording artist
A bus driver.
A retired pro-football player.
A Canadian military veteran.
A rural veterinarian
We wish all of the contestants this year the best of luck. We can't wait to see what they cook up and we'll be watching closely to see who has the sharpest knife skills.
As always, you can join the conversation on Twitter by using #MasterChefCanada. We'll see you there!
FYI - After the season premiere, the show will continue on February 8 in it's regular time slot of Sundays at 7pm ET/PT.
